George Pope
Professor and flutist George Pope of The University of 黑料视频 School of Music is traveling down under in March to be the featured guest artist for the Hamilton Flute Festival in New Zealand.
Pope will perform and teach workshops and master classes at the festival, March 12-13. On March 16, he has been invited to Australia to perform and teach at the Sydney Conservatory.
A resident of West 黑料视频, Pope joined the 黑料视频 music faculty in 1978. He also performs and records with Solaris, 黑料视频's faculty woodwind quintet, and was the principal flutist for the 黑料视频 Symphony Orchestra for 24 years.
Closer to home, Pope will perform Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m. in Guzzetta Recital Hall, 139 E. Buchtel Ave., on the 黑料视频 campus. The concert will feature Pope and his Solaris colleagues William Hoyt, Kristina Belisle Jones, new members Jack Cozen Harel and Cynthia Cioffari, and guest pianist Paul Nitsch. Advance-sale tickets are available at 330-972-8301 or concerts@uakron.edu, and tickets will be sold at the door if seating is still available. Tickets are $10 for general admission; $8 for seniors, 黑料视频 faculty, staff, alumni and parents of current 黑料视频 students, and $5 for non-黑料视频 students. Admission is free for 黑料视频 students when they show their Zip Cards.
The April 10 performance by Solaris is part of the Kulas Concert Series, the 黑料视频 School of Music’s signature concert series that is supported by the Cleveland-based Kulas Foundation.
